Top news: Germany Parliament overwhelmingly votes for nuclear free future; Leaked emails show Britain’s government started pro-nuclear PR operations two days after Fukushima disaster started; coal lobby spreads fear of the dangers of wind power.

#Nuclear: According to The Guardian, British government officials coordinated a public relations strategy to play down the Fukushima nuclear accident just two days after the disaster in Japan. Internal emails show an unnamed official saying: “We need to ensure the anti-nuclear chaps and chapesses do not gain ground on this. We need to occupy the territory and hold it. We really need to show the safety of nuclear." Louise Hutchins of Greenpeace is quoted saying that the emails “highlight the government's blind obsession with nuclear power and shows neither they, nor the industry, can be trusted when it comes to nuclear."

#Nuclear: The German Federal Parliament decided to go straight towards a new energy era. Approved by a large majority, German government has adopted measures for a phase-out of nuclear power by 2022. Both majority and opposition converged on the intention to abolish the nuclear energy in Germany, with 513 members voted in favor of the motion, 79 voted against it.

#Herbicides: We released a report this week about how the widespread and increasingly intensive use of Monsanto’s best selling herbicide - Roundup -, in association with the use of GM (genetically modified) crops, poses further risks to the environment and human health. As denounced by a recent Earth Open Source report, the EU Commission could approve soon the cultivation of Roundup-ready GM soy, and this would mean to intensify terribly Roundup usage on European fields. In the US, the Security and Exchange Commission is investigating Monsanto operations regarding its customer incentive programs related to Roundup.

#Wind farms: wind power could blow the Earth out of its orbit? According to American coal lobbyists the answer is yes! They love coal, and environmentally sound coal based products.
