After recent events in Japan, might it occur to the more astute governments that the building of nuclear reactors in geologically unstable bed rock is exceedingly ill considered.
A sublux zone cannot be seen as anything other than the most unstable region. Yes, "It may well have held good for the previous 40 years", as I heard several Japanese reports telling us on TV News but four decades is a whisker of time compared to the half life of the fuel being used - plutonium's is over 24,000 years. Assuming that a feasibility study was undertaken, I would love to know the name of the physicist on that original planning committee. Was he actually awake or just a madly lunatic optimist?

In the news recently there is information that the radiation cloud can reach USA, Europe in the next days but experts say that there is no risk for our health and the environment. first off, thanks GP for the crucial updates concerning Japan. Following GP specialist' video, my question is if radiation can affect people at both internal and external levels, is it possible that this radiation spreads beyond the perimeter of the 30 km set by the Japanese officials? Is it possible that radiation travels through water and food to spread to other regions at least at the level of Japan and therefore expand?

I listened to the statments of Jan - so much is not being said and is left out of his statements and the Questions and Answers of your section. Why? It's anyone's guess. He's an expert or just someone that stepped up to the plate and has mimimal experience. I'm not a scietist but I helped build power plants for 4 years. My father worked in nuclear facilites for years before I got involved in engineering. I was well trained and certified by the NRC to handle and work with radioactive isotopes. I'm amazed the media is misinforming people about the dynmics of radiation exposure and the effects on the body and how the environment is being affected. I can tell you how this is spreading into the water tables in the area and waht and how this "radioactive cloud" is being created and how it is more dangerous than anyone is saying . I cant find anything out there that explains it thoroughly as I know it from my background and experience. I thought GreenPeace was to inform. It seems to me you are giving people popcorn here instead of really addressing this wholeheartedly. 1000s of people are going to start dying if.....
