Greenpeace welcomes the 3rd Joint Meeting of the Tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (Kobe III). The Kobe process offers an excellent opportunity to respond to common issues in global and regional tuna fisheries management, as well as to facilitate learning from best practices in different tuna RFMOs. However, this process is threatened by the slow progress that has been made to date to effectively conserve the world’s precious tuna resources. This year's meeting should therefore review what has actually been achieved since 2007, and identify actions that ensure the implementation of existing commitments and recommendations.

Greenpeace calls on participants to agree on a focused, deliverable, time-bound work plan with potential to ensure significant progress towards the recovery of overexploited tuna stocks, associated species and the sustainable management of tuna fisheries worldwide.
