Publication - 12 March, 2010

Executive summary: The Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meeting in March 2010 offers a real opportunity to put in place urgently needed ocean protection measures. One central issue is the Monaco Proposal 19, to list Atlantic bluefin tuna on Appendix I of the Convention. Atlantic bluefin has been so badly mismanaged it is on the brink of commercial extinction. In practical terms if agreed, it means there will be a (temporary) ban on selling Atlantic bluefin on international markets.
