No old GMOs in new Europe

Publication - 15 June, 2004
With the enlargement of the European Union a lot of things will change, but one will remain the same: the EU-wide permission for the 18 Gentically Modified Organisms (GMO)currently authorized within the EU. However, the area for which they are permitted will enlarge by ten more countries. Most of them do not have these GMOs permitted on their markets, nor assessed their impacts on local environments. This paper is to help governments and relevant authorities of accession countries to formulate their standing on the issue of reassessment.
