Wipe out: the liberal government's plan for Canada's endangered species

Publication - 3 September, 2001
In 1992, the government of Canada made a commitment to Canadians and the rest of the world to enact endangered species legislation in an effort to reverse the ongoing decline of our nation's biodiversity. Over the past 150 years, 28 species have become extinct in Canada and now 352 species are on the brink - officially listed as being at risk of extinction. Despite these losses and the fact that the government has repeatedly promised protection, we are no closer to effective legislation than we were almost ten years ago when Canada signed and ratified the international Convention on Biological Diversity. This report is a call to every citizen across the nation to voice their concerns and to ensure that Canada does not turn up at this important global meeting empty-handed.
