Witnessing the plunder: a report from the MV Greenpeace expedition investigating pirate fishing in West Africa

For many years, there have been alarming reports on illegal fishing activities off the coasts of West African nations. Some fishing vessels operate very close to the coast, violating the area reserved to local artisanal fishermen. They come almost up to the beach, and when fishing at night, they ram small fishing canoes, killing or injuring people.
