08 November 2005: The Japanese whaling fleet in port in Shimonoseki, Japan, shortly before putting to sea on November 8 to hunt more than 1000 whales in the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary. The Fisheries Agency of Japan claims that the hunt is for scientific purposes and has the word "Research" painted on the mother ship the Nissan Maru. The catcher boats are clustered around her.
