Some very encouraging news just in, on this, Day One of the Copenhagen climate talks; the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a ruling that allows President Obama to take strong action at the summit, regardless of whether Congress passes legislation to cut greenhouse gases back home.

The President can now move to implement greenhouse gas regulations (under the Clean Air Act) beyond the weak targets of congressional legislation. (ie- he can commit in to much deeper 2020 emission cuts in Copenhagen than previously thought.)

Full story here. Now all we need is for Obama to make up for lost time...

During the EPA announcement today, Greenpeace activists unveiled a huge banner in front of the White House that displayed an image of Obama and the message "Lead. Save the Climate!"  Obama's image was formed with the names of over 50,000 Americans who have signed a Greenpeace petition calling for leadership from President Obama to solve global warming. Great Greenpeace minds must think alike!
