Today was pretty much taken up with media. More FM Dunedin came on board the ship at 7:30am, just as the sun was rising over the city, and proceeded to broadcast their breakfast show from the bridge deck. Very very funny. They began by announcing to listeners that they had arrived in “hippie heaven” but by the end of the show had to admit they had not seen one unkempt dreadlocked drop-out. In fact, one of the show’s presenters, was so charmed by life on board, he’s joining us for the next transit to Wellington. My tales of at-sea-quease failed to deter him, instead earning me the title of “chunder chops” on mainstream radio. We put a couple of “Be a Climate Kiwi” t-shirts up for grabs, and the phones rang hot.

Then off we went to Radio 1 (student radio), which was very exciting for me, because the coffee on offer was as bad as when I used to host a show there eight years ago. A quick swing by some local op-shops for emergency hats and scarves (although I must say Dunedin has really come through in terms of temperature; it’s practically t-shirt weather) then back to the ship to greet school kids and more media.

That and some minor cosmetic improvements to the ship in time for this weekend’s open days, (any Dunedinites coming down, please take a moment to note how red the red deck pipes are) made for a very busy day on and around the Warrior.

Tonight we host some local members of parliament for dinner, and supporters from around the region for drinks.

So much for some time out after tying up the police!

(p.s- our on board photographer Dima Sharomov is very excited to be back in Dunedin, where he once studied photography). So I have thrown in a couple of his local photos for good measure, taken last year.)
