Submersible Operations Aboard Esperanza In The Bering Sea

The Alaskan Arctic Expedition highlights the need to save the Arctic from attempts by oil companies to exploit the regions resources for short term profit. The MY Esperanza will document whats at stake in the region whilst creating a sanctuary around the North Pole.

Pilots Shannon Lo Ricco (L) of Australia and John Hocevar of the USA get ready for their first dive in a two-seater submersible craft, on loan from the Waitt Institute is prepared on board the Greenpeace ship Esperanza for its first dive exploring the deep sea canyons of the Bering Sea, Alaska.The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is on an Arctic expedition to study unexplored ocean habitats threatened by offshore oil drilling, as well as industrial fishing fleets. 07/11/2012
