Publication - August 11, 2010
Southern and Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks have declined dramatically since the onset of industrialised fishing. Southern bluefin are Critically Endangered, and the two Atlantic stocks are Endangered and Critically Endangered.

Despite this, the stocks continue to decline as fisheries managers and politicians ignore scientific advice for cuts to catches that could allow the stocks to recover, and place the high commercial value of bluefin tunas over all other interests. The Pacific bluefin tuna stock, until recently thought to be in a better state, is now in danger of overtaking the other species on the road to stock collapse.
