Siem Reap, Cambodia, 14 July 2005 – Members of Greenpeace Solar Generation youth group today handed a solar PV system to Dr Sat Samy, Cambodia’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy and founder of the Renewable Electricity Action Plan (front row, 3rd from left). Cambodia, one of the world’s poorest, hopes to provide clean renewable energy for up to 70 percent of its population by 2030 and at the same time thwart the severe impacts of climate change. Cambodia has been a victim of several extreme weather disasters, such as floods and droughts, that the government has linked to global warming. Copyright Greenpeace/Vinai Dithajohn
