Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay (left) and Greenpeace Southeast Asia Director Von Hernandez (right), along with representatives of the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), Makati Commercial Estate Association (MACEA), Ayala Land Inc., and Ayala Foundation, lead a symbolic u-turn of the globe from climate change. The represented groups today (20 July 09) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation that aims to turn Makati into an Energy Efficient City. The project is an initiative that seeks to involve local governments and their citizens in reducing a city's carbon footprint as a way to help stop climate change. An extensive public awareness campaign will be run and a multi-sectoral working group will introduce energy efficiency measures in schools, hospitals, commercial establishments and businesses. Among the first steps will be the development and implementation of Energy Efficient Building Guidelines, which will be launched later this year.
