Greenpeace activisits on rubber boats attempt to stop a garbage barge from leaving the premises of PhilEco dumpsite in Manila. The activists earlier secured a mooring line across Pier 18’s sea access, but was later cut by PhilEco staff. The company is illegally operating by the shores of Manila Bay. The facility violates existing laws such as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003), the Clean Water Act (RA 8275) and the Clean Air Act (RA 8749). Greenpeace and EcoWaste Coalition are calling for the immediate closure of the dump, as well as for its clean-up and rehabilitation.
