Rescue workers, volunteers and PTT personnel try to clean up the oilspills at Ao Phrao beach in Ko Samed, Rayong Province. This resort is one of the most affected areas by the oil spill. More than 50,000 litres of crude oil spilled into the sea 20 kilometres southeast of the Map Ta Phut industrial estate following a leak from pipeline at an offshore platform. The pipeline is operated by PTT Global Chemical Public Company, a subsidiary of PTT Public Company Limited, the biggest fossil fuel conglomerate in Thailand. Greenpeace called on the Thai government to review its energy policy and to put an end to oil drilling and exploration in the Gulf of Thailand.
