On the Paris Agreement ratification: Real work begins now

Press release - March 14, 2017
Manila, Philippines - On March 14, 2017, the Philippine Senate concurred with the ratification of the Paris Agreement by voting unanimously in its favor. Reuben Muni, Climate and Energy Campaigner for Greenpeace Philippines, said:

"Greenpeace Philippines welcomes the Philippine Senate’s unanimous concurrence to the ratification of the historic Paris Agreement. The ratification is an indication of the willingness of the Duterte Administration to take a bold step towards addressing the challenges that climate change poses to the country. While it is not the silver bullet that will stop climate change, the Agreement takes us into the right policy direction for a long-term solution to the issue.

“It is important to remind ourselves that the ratification only signals the start of the real work on the ground. We must ensure and swiftly initiate a just transition from a fossil fuel-addicted economic growth paradigm into a sustainable development trajectory powered by renewables. Greenpeace will continue to monitor its implementation and engage significant actors and stakeholders to ensure that the measures proposed in the agreement will be followed both in spirit and in letter."
