Bangkok, Thailand, 14 September 2010 -- The Greenpeace flagship, Rainbow Warrior docks at Klong Toey Port, Bangkok. On Friday, September 17, Greenpeace is launching the “Turn the Tide – Rainbow Warrior’s Tour of Southeast Asia.” Greenpeace is calling on the Governments of Southeast Asian nations to support green investments and adopt low-carbon growth pathway for future development. The Tour also marks 10 years of Greenpeace campaigns in Southeast Asia to protect forests, catalyse an Energy Revolution, promote sustainable agriculture and stop water pollution in the region.
The current ship is Rainbow Warrior II. Rainbow Warrior I was bombed in 1985 by French Secret Service agents in New Zealand as it prepared to sail against nuclear testing. The Rainbow Warrior is one of Greenpeace’s most enduring symbols in their history of campaigning for the environment. After 52 years at sea (21 years as a Greenpeace ship), Rainbow Warrior II is heading for retirement, but is now visiting Southeast Asia 10 years after its very first journey to the region.
The ship will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19, 2010.
