Groups call on ASEAN leaders to take real action in Cancun climate talks

Greenpeace activists this morning unfurled an underwater banner reading "ASEAN for Climate Action in Cancun" at a typical site of coral bleaching off the coast of Jakarta, on behalf of the A-FAB (ASEAN for Fair, Ambitious and Binding Global Deal Coalition of Oxfam, Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund), urging ASEAN leaders to take real action to stop climate change at the United Nation's climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, which commence at the end of November. Southeast Asia is one of the regions most vulnerable and least prepared to cope with the impacts of climate change and is witnessing a massive coral bleaching incident in 2010.
