“The optimism of the action is better than the pessimism of the thought.” ~Harald Zindler

Year in review 2014. photo by Albert Lozada for GreenpeaceThe holidays are always a good time to look back and reflect on the year that passed so that we can face the coming year with confidence that we will do things better. It is also a time to remember our supporters with whom we would like to express our deepest gratitude for sticking with us and believing ceaselessly in the work that we do. After all, the mission of protecting the planet from further destruction is not just Greenpeace's--it is everyone's right and obligation.

As this year draws to a close, let us celebrate the collective strength, the gains and painstaking accomplishments that I would like to believe brought us closer to our vision. For me, these great stories must be shared, heard, and known. Getting our acts together has proven to create change, and we should not stop until a safer, healthier, and peaceful world is finally realized.

Together we have been able to make a difference in 2014:

Online and offline public pressure has brought us 2 people-powered victories both on the runway and football to a toxic-free future!

Right before Earth Day, consumers like you were able to convince P&G to clean up their act and wash its supply chain clean of bad palm oil.

LEGO heeded the call of over 1 million people worldwide asking it to end its inappropriate deal with Shell. Again, props to your incredible strength and unstoppable power of our global movement.

In the Philippines, communities raised their voice to refuse the reality of climate change as a way of life, by taking the first step in the long walk for climate justice.

Creativity fuelled our passion for sustainable agriculture and this was highlighted when farmers, mothers, health advocates, organic consumers and traders and policy makers were able to create the largest food art in the Philippines!

With these successes, I believe we can do more next year to:

For more than 40 years, Greenpeace and people like you have been making a difference. We've made mistakes and rest assured we've learned from them, but we can't stop now. Knowing that we have your support and millions of people all over the world make us even more inspired to protect our planet.

Year in Review 2014The victories we continuously achieve tell us that together we can do more, we can do better. Each of them is a reminder of what can be done when we assume the responsibility to change ourselves and our world for the better.

Now, it's your turn to share your story.

Is there a particular place or event that has inspired you to support Greenpeace? Or a person who encourages you to stand up on behalf of the environment and people around the world? We'd love to know what inspires you to be part of Greenpeace. Share your story by commenting below.
