Greenpeace comments earlier closure of Ringhals reactors

Sida - 28 april, 2015
Greenpeace welcomes today's announcement by Vattenfall to close the reactors Ringhals 1 and 2 at the latest 2020, instead of 2025 as previously stated.

– These reactors have already passed their technical lifetime and according to stress test analysis after the Fukushima accident pose a serious security risk. Apparently the owner has deided that upgrading them to achieve the security requirement imposed by the regulator is too costly, therefore the closure is brought forward, says Annika Jacobson, Programme Manager, Greenpeace in Sweden.

– Today's announcement clearly shows that nuclear power is unprofitable and opens up the market for more investments in renewables, says Annika Jacobson.
