{"id":26468,"date":"2019-10-21T22:23:46","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T02:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=26468"},"modified":"2019-11-06T03:26:57","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T08:26:57","slug":"breaking-greenpeace-spams-pm-trudeau-with-climate-emergency-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/26468\/breaking-greenpeace-spams-pm-trudeau-with-climate-emergency-alert\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: GREENPEACE SPAMS PM TRUDEAU WITH CLIMATE EMERGENCY ALERT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OTTAWA &#8211; Treating climate change like the emergency that Parliament said it is, Greenpeace Canada called on Canadians to spam the PM with a &#8216;climate emergency&#8217; alert that asked him to work with the other parties to implement an aggressive climate plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis was the climate emergency election,\u201d said Keith Stewart, senior energy strategist with Greenpeace Canada. \u201cMore than a half million Canadians took to the streets on September 27 with a clear message: it\u2019s time to act like our house is on fire, because it is. Voters have not only decisively rejected the Conservatives\u2019 climate roll-back agenda, but have also told the Liberals that they expect more than half-measures in response to this emergency.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/angusreid.org\/election-2019-final-week\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">October 15 poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Angus Reid found that climate change was the leading issue determining voter intention (37% of all voters). Climate was the key issue for a majority of Liberal, NDP and Green Party supporters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOil lobbyists showed their true colours in setting and then backing the Conservatives\u2019 anti-climate election platform,\u201d said Stewart, pointing to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-conservative-politicians-oil-executives-map-out-strategy-for-ousting\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reporting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on how senior oil lobbyists met with Andrew Scheer and his campaign team to strategize on how to defeat the Liberals.\u00a0 \u201cYou don\u2019t ask arsonists for advice on putting out fires, and it\u2019s time we stopped letting the oil lobby shape our climate policy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greenpeace Canada is inviting people to spam the Prime Minister on his social media in order to remind him that it isn\u2019t enough to declare a climate emergency, he has to act like it\u2019s an emergency too.
