But one thing is clear: climate change is driving catastrophic bushfires in Australia. <strong>This is what a climate emergency looks like. <\/strong>[<a href=\"http:\/\/Australia\u2019s leaders unmoved on climate action after devastating bushfires\">2<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n<p>By now the devastating facts and numbers are all over the news, as are harrowing personal accounts from those on the ground. If you\u2019re like me, you\u2019ve seen photos that you will never in your life forget. <strong>What many of us are still asking though is, what can I do from here in Canada? How can I help?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>That\u2019s the question we asked my colleagues at Greenpeace Australia last week. Despite this, the government continues to act as though climate breakdown is someone else\u2019s problem [3] while stubbornly investing in coal. [4]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<style>\n  a.external-link {\n    white-space: normal;\n  }\n<\/style>\n\n<p><strong>Greenpeace Australia has asked that we show solidarity to the victims and the survivors of these fires by calling out those complicit politicians who have failed, up to now, to take appropriate and urgent action. <a href=\"https:\/\/act.greenpeace.org\/page\/54401\/petition\/1?locale=en-US\">You can sign the open letter to stand in solidarity with bushfire survivors and to join the fast-growing movement of people doing what it takes to force politicians worldwide to recognize the climate crisis for what it is: a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate action.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter is-style-cta\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-color has-grey-200-color has-background has-green-500-background-color\" href=\"https:\/\/act.greenpeace.org\/page\/54401\/petition\/1?locale=en-US\">SIGN THE OPEN LETTER<\/a><\/div>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace is calling on Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to urgently reduce Australia\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions, which have been rising for the past four years. A similar letter has already been signed by over 100,000 Australians. Fighting climate change this decade has to be a global effort and requires bold leadership like never before. <\/strong>If ever there was a time to move away from fossil fuels and invest more in sustainable alternatives, surely it is now.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>There is certainly more for us to do here in Canada as well. <\/strong>Leadership on climate means doing everything possible to reduce our emissions to net-zero.
