{"id":30458,"date":"2020-04-17T10:17:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T14:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=30458"},"modified":"2021-12-06T06:29:38","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T11:29:38","slug":"how-to-make-an-upcycled-fabric-face-mask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/story\/30458\/how-to-make-an-upcycled-fabric-face-mask\/","title":{"rendered":"How to make an upcycled fabric face mask"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help prevent the spread of coronavirus by making and using this upcycled fabric face mask with a non-woven coffee filter insert.<\/h2>\n\n<p>Canada&#8217;s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, has put forward a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-tam-offers-new-advice-wear-a-non-medical-mask-when-shopping-or-using\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recommendation<\/a> for the general public to wear non-medical masks or face coverings, in situations where it\u2019s difficult to maintain two meters distance from others while indoors.<\/p>\n\n<p>This means we should all wear masks at the grocery store, pharmacy, and on public transit. This will create an opening at the top of the mask where you can insert a non-woven layer.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to use your fabric face mask<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\u2019s important that your mask <strong>fits snugly but comfortably<\/strong> and that there<strong> aren&#8217;t big open gaps<\/strong> around your face.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Remember <strong>not to touch your face<\/strong> or the mask when wearing it.<\/li><li>After taking off the mask, <strong>remove the non-woven layer<\/strong> and dispose according to your local municipal waste guidelines. <strong>Wash your hands immediately<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The fabric mask should be <strong>laundered in hot water<\/strong> with fragrance free, non-toxic detergent and rinsed well.<\/li><li>You can <strong>air dry<\/strong> the mask in sunlight.<\/li><li>Before using the mask again, <strong>insert a new non-woven layer<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If you need to use masks regularly, you may want to have <strong>more than one mask<\/strong> (one being laundered, the other to wear).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p>Remember, masks are not a replacement for handwashing and social distancing guidelines \u270c\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Have you made your own upcycled face mask?
