Here are five reasons to support a green and just recovery that you can share with your Member of Parliament (federal or provincial), but feel free to add your own.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Voters want it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Climate change a key issue in the last election campaign, when 63 percent voted for parties backing stronger climate action. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en-ca\/news-and-polls\/Two-Thirds-Of-Canadians-Think--In-The-Long-Term-Climate-Change-Is-As-Serious-Of-A-Problem-As-Coronavirus\">Polling shows<\/a> that a large majority (61%) of Canadians want governments to prioritize climate action in their response to the pandemic. Canada\u2019s Parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/climate-emergency-motion-1.5179802\">declared a climate emergency<\/a> last year &#8211; now it\u2019s time to act like it\u2019s an emergency.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large  caption-style-blue-overlay caption-alignment-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"457\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm-1024x457.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm-1024x457.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm-300x134.png 300w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm-768x343.png 768w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm-510x228.png 510w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/79ee0838-screen-shot-2020-05-25-at-12.14.41-pm.png 1161w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>It would create more jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>When a team of economists at the University of Cambridge, including Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz, reviewed the published research and surveyed 231 experts<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/news\/2020-05-05-building-back-better-green-covid-19-recovery-packages-will-boost-economic-growth-and\"> they found<\/a> that \u201cgreen projects create more jobs, deliver higher short-term returns per dollar spend and lead to increased long-term cost savings, by comparison with traditional fiscal stimulus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>We\u2019ll be better prepared for the next crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>While the COVID-19 pandemic is the immediate threat, we still face the ongoing crises of climate change, biodiversity destruction, and growing racial and economic inequality. As governments prepare recovery packages, the United Nations<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/un-coronavirus-communications-team\/un-urges-countries-%E2%80%98build-back-better%E2%80%99\"> is urging them<\/a> to seize the opportunity to \u201cbuild back better\u201d by creating more sustainable, resilient and inclusive societies. Greenpeace Canada&nbsp; has put forward<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2020\/05\/1e47c7e8-building-back-better-greenpeace-canada-policy-proposal-may-25-2020.pdf\"> some ideas<\/a> on how our country could do this \u2013 we\u2019re working with allies and supporters to make this happen, and we need your MP to get behind a green and just recovery.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s better for our health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Canadian health professionals <a href=\"https:\/\/cape.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Call-to-Action-ENGLISH-Dec-2019.pdf\">have identified climate solutions<\/a> as \u201cthe greatest global health opportunity of the 21st century.\u201d Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy, walkable and bike-able cities, alongside electric vehicles and better public transit will decrease air pollution, which<a href=\"http:\/\/publications.gc.ca\/collections\/collection_2019\/sc-hc\/H144-51-2019-eng.pdf\"> Health Canada says<\/a> is responsible for more than 14,000 premature deaths and 2.7 million asthma symptom days each year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Polluters are using the pandemic as cover to try to roll back environmental regulations and suck up all the cash&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Show your MP our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/story\/30873\/exposed-a-running-list-of-industry-scandals-and-lobbying-to-profit-from-covid-19\/\">running list<\/a> of the sneaky attempts by corporate polluters to further delay climate action, eliminate environmental and health protections, undercut workers and get governments to give them more of your money.
