They are deliberately set by land-grabbers and ranchers to expand the land used for cattle grazing and industrial agriculture production.<a href=\"#ref-4\" class=\"reference\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>Since Brazil\u2019s President Jair Bolsonaro took office in January 2019, the problem has gotten much worse. Bolsonaro is pushing for more industrial projects in the Amazon.<a href=\"#ref-5\" class=\"reference\">[5]<\/a> His government is actively dismantling environment laws, slashing funding for environmental protection agencies and demolishing Indigenous land rights.<a href=\"#ref-6\" class=\"reference\">[6]<\/a><a href=\"#ref-7\" class=\"reference\">[7]<\/a><a href=\"#ref-8\" class=\"reference\">[8]<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>This has given free reign for forest destroyers to clear and burn the forest without being held accountable. Every person on earth depends on the Amazon to help regulate our climate.<a href=\"#ref-15\" class=\"reference\">[15]<\/a> The rainforest sucks carbon from the air and stores it in billions of trees. Even worse, Brazil\u2019s Big Agro is celebrating because the agreement is expected to increase Brazil\u2019s meat exports to Canada.<a href=\"#ref-20\" class=\"reference\">[20]<\/a> Yes! The lead driver of the Amazon fires!<\/p>\n\n<p>It is unacceptable for our government to reward Bolsonaro\u2019s attacks on the environment and to make Canadians complicit in it.<\/p>\n\n<p>We need to send a clear message that will resonate all the way back to Bolsonaro: There will be no trade deals in environmental destruction.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center
