Starting at the crack of dawn, banners dropped in some of Canada\u2019s biggest cities – Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax – thanks to the organizing efforts of people like you, who care passionately about a future that is clean and just and equitable for everyone.

The Liberals set ambitious goals in their Throne Speech last month.  For some, this was an audible sigh of relief that progress was in motion.  For others, these were just big promises, familiar promises, that would likely be watered down, or worse forgotten. And of course, to others, these promises were painfully weak and lackluster. Now … it\u2019s up to all of us who care to make sure they follow through … push further … and be even bolder to create a post-pandemic society that\u2019s better than a meager \u2018normal\u2019. 

We\u2019ve put together a  Greenpeace Canada scorecard<\/a>, and this analysis details how the Throne Speech measured up against our recommended policies, along with what we think needs to happen next.

Greenpeace has been asking people everywhere, to join our campaign efforts to ramp up the pressure on Canada\u2019s decision-makers. A  tactic we hope will highlight what\u2019s needed right now – Liberal promises turned into reality … and quickly.

On October 17th, we saw a big moment of unity as people across the country came together to say there is no more time to waste<\/strong> for a green and just recovery.

Targeting key cabinet ministers such as Chrystia Freeland and Economic Development Minister M\u00e9lanie Joly,  banner drops were organized from coast to coast by Greenpeace and allied local groups. The goal – to ensure that the environmental and social justice promises from the Throne Speech will be fully resourced.

It was an uplifting day. Just getting outside and connecting with people \u2018beyond the screen\u2019 was an essential surge of vital energy for our movement.  Social distancing and keeping small social bubbles isn’t really conducive to the usual ways of working.  In-person connection and collaboration is a cornerstone to mobilizing people to action, and COVID restrictions have surely had a demoralizing impact.   Despite the challenges of organizing and banner making during a pandemic, people still managed to come together in creative ways to make it all happen while prioritizing safety.  <\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s deeply powerful to witness unity through action; this is the necessary work that needs to happen, now more than ever, as the stresses on our communities worsen because of COVID and the urgency of the climate crisis.

While it’s been many months in our political campaign, you can still count on Greenpeace to continue ramping up the pressure on our political leaders and corporate giants, and we hope you’ll double down with us as best as we can during these COVID times.

There is a distributed web of Greenpeace volunteers working together, and there is always space for new people to join in and add power in numbers.
