{"id":45817,"date":"2021-01-26T05:00:43","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T10:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=45817"},"modified":"2021-01-25T15:26:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T20:26:08","slug":"follow-bidens-lead-and-cancel-tmx-say-large-collection-of-groups-representing-more-than-3-5-million-canadians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/45817\/follow-bidens-lead-and-cancel-tmx-say-large-collection-of-groups-representing-more-than-3-5-million-canadians\/","title":{"rendered":"Follow Biden\u2019s Lead and Cancel TMX Say Large Collection of Groups Representing More Than 3.5 Million Canadians"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Ottawa, January 26, 2021<\/strong> \u2014A collection of labour, faith, health, science, youth, environmental, community, social justice and indigenous groups representing more than 3.5 million Canadians have sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coastprotectors.ca\/follow_biden_s_lead_and_cancel_tmx_say_large_collection_of_groups_representing_three_million_canadians\">letter<\/a> to Prime Minister Trudeau and his entire cabinet asking for him to cancel the taxpayer-funded $12.6 billion and counting Trans Mountain pipeline project (TMX) because it directly conflicts with the federal government\u2019s recently announced climate plan and it does not have permission or consent from affected Indigenous Nations.<\/p>\n\n<p>Groups, including M\u00e8res au front, British Columbia Government and Service Employees&#8217; Union, Canadian Unitarians for Social Justice, Amnesty International Canada, Le Front commun pour la Transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, Leadnow, the FTQ and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment are among the close to 100 signatories of the letter, which states:<\/p>\n\n<p><em>As the Biden administration prepares to rejoin the Paris Agreement on climate and unveil the most ambitious climate plan in America&#8217;s history, Canada will be left behind if it does not reconcile the contradiction it has systematically ignored since 2015: you can&#8217;t solve the climate crisis while expanding the oil sands by building new pipelines.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Signatories contend that all the same conditions and realities that made President Biden cancel Keystone \u2013 a low oil price, a worsening climate emergency, a quickly developing green economy \u2013 apply to the Trans Mountain pipeline.
