{"id":5166,"date":"2018-09-26T11:54:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T15:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=5166"},"modified":"2019-11-06T03:28:34","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T08:28:34","slug":"press-release-greenpeace-thanks-the-defenders-who-stood-up-to-trans-mountain-in-globe-and-mail-ad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/5166\/press-release-greenpeace-thanks-the-defenders-who-stood-up-to-trans-mountain-in-globe-and-mail-ad\/","title":{"rendered":"PRESS RELEASE: Greenpeace thanks the defenders who stood up to Trans Mountain in Globe and Mail ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>26 September 2018 (VANCOUVER) &#8212; Today Greenpeace Canada is running an ad in the Western Globe and Mail to thank defenders of the land for their efforts to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/act.gp\/2Q84HX2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The half-page ad<\/a>, which features the faces of some of the thousands of defenders, including Indigenous leaders, environmentalists and community members from coast to coast, who stood up to the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to use this ad to thank the thousands of defenders that stood up to protect the land, water and climate from the damages this pipeline and tanker project would bring,\u201d said Mike Hudema, climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace Canada. \u201cWe also wanted to showcase the wide diversity of people that pushed back against Trans Mountain. From teachers, to engineers, seniors to students, the movement to live up to our climate and Indigenous commitments spans right across society. We thank them all for their efforts and stand ready to rise again should this problem-plagued pipeline ever try to raise its head again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ad is running in the Globe\u2019s papers in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and concludes with the statement, \u201ctogether, we&#8217;ll stop this pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/4150\/press-release-massive-court-decision-overturns-trans-mountain-pipeline-project-approval-opportunity-for-prime-minister-trudeau-to-drop-pipeline-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">monumental court decision<\/a> that quashed the pipeline\u2019s approval in August, the Trudeau government gave the National Energy Board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/4832\/statement-trudeau-continues-to-treat-trans-mountain-expansion-process-as-a-box-checking-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">22 weeks to redo<\/a> an assessment for Trans Mountain that includes impacts on Southern Resident orcas from tanker traffic.
