As part of the Rethinking Nature Protection<\/em><\/a> art call, we have the pleasure and honour of showcasing the work of 5 artists in their vision of what decolonization and Nature protection truly means. Creator Jarett Sitter shares his work and vision in this representation of environmental injustice.<\/p>\n\n

“This illustration speaks to environmental injustice and environmental racism. Depicting the select few that control resources as birds of prey selfishly guarding the “continents” of leaves for themselves on this global tree. This invasive bird is hoarding resources within the planet we all share, while intentionally subjugating the “Have Nots”, pictured as an assorted group of birds from around the world, to areas the “Haves” deem less desirable.”<\/p>\n\n

Jarett Sitter is a full time freelance illustrator and animator, who has been featured as the cover artist of The Believer Magazine, and his illustrations have appeared in Reader’s Digest Canada, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Ringer, and Maclean’s Magazine, to name a few publications. In the past Jarett has contributed animation for Juno Award and Much Music Video Award nominated music videos. Within his hometown of Calgary he has contributed various public art installations, including being selected as the 2021 Centre City Banner Artist.
