{"id":61323,"date":"2023-11-15T12:02:46","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T17:02:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=61323"},"modified":"2023-11-15T12:02:51","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T17:02:51","slug":"reaction-to-industry-lobbyist-access-at-global-plastics-treaty-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/61323\/reaction-to-industry-lobbyist-access-at-global-plastics-treaty-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"Reaction to industry lobbyist access at Global Plastics Treaty talks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Nairobi, Kenya &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 In response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciel.org\/news\/fossil-fuel-and-chemical-industries-at-inc-3\/\">an analysis conducted by Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL)<\/a> and supported by Greenpeace that revealed that 143 fossil fuel and chemical industry lobbyists have gained access to the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-3) to negotiate for a Global plastics Treaty, <strong>Graham Forbes, Greenpeace Head of Delegation to the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations<\/strong> and Global Campaign Lead for Greenpeace USA, said:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe fossil fuel and petrochemical industries are heavily resisting people- and planet-saving measures in the Global Plastics Treaty. Their growing presence in the negotiations is very telling. A strong and ambitious agreement that will cut plastic production by at least 75% by 2040 means they will need to find another way to satisfy shareholders.
