{"id":62444,"date":"2023-12-09T09:56:52","date_gmt":"2023-12-09T14:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=62444"},"modified":"2023-12-09T09:56:56","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T14:56:56","slug":"greenpeace-canadas-reaction-to-liberal-governments-commitment-to-new-nature-law-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/62444\/greenpeace-canadas-reaction-to-liberal-governments-commitment-to-new-nature-law-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenpeace Canada\u2019s reaction to Liberal government\u2019s commitment to new nature law in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>TORONTO<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> Today, the Liberal government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/government-of-canada-takes-action-to-restore-and-protect-nature-with-commitment-to-introduce-a-nature-accountability-bill-in-2024-818699289.html\">formalized<\/a> its commitment to new nature legislation in 2024, just in time for the anniversary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbd.int\/article\/cop15-final-text-kunming-montreal-gbf-221222\">Kunming-Montreal Agreement<\/a>, the biggest nature summit in a decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In reaction, Shane Moffatt, Head of the Food and Nature campaign at Greenpeace Canada, said:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWe congratulate Prime Minister Trudeau and his government for making this big commitment. It provides a ray of hope in the midst of a global biodiversity crisis. If the Prime Minister follows through on it, this could be a real turning point for wildlife and nature across the country. This legislation is Justin Trudeau\u2019s big chance to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.<\/p>\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to say that none of this would have been possible without tens of thousands of people across Canada calling, demonstrating and petitioning to make it happen. And we\u2019re still not there yet.
