Questioning the validity of a cap on production is not only out of sync with its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hactoendplasticpollution.org\/hac-member-states-ministerial-joint-statement-for-inc-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">High Ambition Coalition<\/a>&nbsp;membership, it&#8217;s out of sync with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/64495\/ahead-of-ottawa-un-negotiations-7-out-of-10-people-in-canada-support-a-global-plastics-treaty-that-cuts-plastic-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">what the public is demanding<\/a>, what&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ikhapp.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/The-Scientists-Coalitions-response-to-the-Revised-Zero-Draft-rZD-Text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scientists<\/a>&nbsp;are calling for and Canada\u2019s own commitments to protect biodiversity and stay within 1.5C. As the host country of the plastics treaty talks, Canada has a job to do and that is to support strong measures across the board, not undermine them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>ENDS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Notes to editor:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Yesterday, Greenpeace Canada ramped up pressure on UN delegates, by delivering&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/65323\/greenpeace-ramps-up-pressure-on-un-delegates-to-cut-plastic-production-by-delivering-a-global-plastics-factory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a \u201cGlobal Plastics Factory\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;at the doorstep of the Shaw Center, where negotiations for a Global Plastics Treaty are taking place. One peaceful activist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/press-release\/65363\/inc-4-peaceful-greenpeace-activist-arrested-by-police-at-the-shaw-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was arrested<\/a>&nbsp;while denouncing inaction from global governments and the urgent need for a strong Global Plastics Treaty that addresses the full lifecycle of plastics and cut plastic production.<\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace has a delegation representing more than a dozen countries that will be present at INC4 throughout the duration of the talks.
