Greenpeace Canada is non-partisan: we don’t support any particular party or candidate in this election \u2013 however, this does not mean we are neutral. We will call out harmful policies and ideas where we see them. And we see a lot of those in Poilievre’s recently released CPC platform. With early voting out of the way \u2013 and an impressive voter turnout<\/a>, no less \u2013 Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party have finally graced voters with their \u201ccosted\u201d policy platform<\/a>. Costed is in quotations because the 30 page doc \u2013 complete with 17 glossy photos of Pierre \u2013 seems to pull its numbers out of thin air, according to Kevin Page<\/a> who was the Parliamentary Budget Watchdog for five years.<\/p>\n\n

Along with those numbers \u2013 which, as we shall get into, were audited in conjunction<\/a> with those who want to unleash DOGE on Canada \u2013  one of the most concerning things is that despite the \u2018Canada First\u2019 campaign, this is a platform that feels like it\u2019s ripped right from Trump\u2019s \u2018America First\u2019 playbook.<\/p>\n\n

Do the Numbers Really Add Up?<\/h3>\n\n

For the party that many associate with \u201cfiscal responsibility,\u201d this new platform is a far cry from anything the Conservatives have put out before<\/a> \u2013 even the far right leaning Postmedia owned National Post was critical:<\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s heavily reliant on what has been called a \u201c<\/em>somewhat controversial approach<\/em><\/a>\u201d \u2013 Dynamic Pricing<\/strong>. This means everything is costed through future projected revenue<\/a> based on hoped for economic growth which would depend<\/a> on a degree of certainty.<\/p>\n\n

Thus, this approach \u2013 full of deregulation, tax cuts, and a ripper mentality<\/a> towards the checks and balances that keep our democracy relatively healthy<\/a> \u2013 don\u2019t exactly feel like stable footing when looking down the barrel of an economic downturn<\/a> due to Trump’s erratic economic policies and tariff threats<\/a>. But perhaps that level of substance shouldn\u2019t be expected from a campaign that built its entire identity around slogans<\/a>, false equivalencies and handing out donuts to rally its base.<\/p>\n\n
