From sailing the oceans and urgent petitions, to powerful murals and bold protests. Across the movement, we\u2019re combining our skills to raise awareness, demand stronger environmental policies, and hold those in power accountable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>In this month&#8217;s update, I want to share some stories from the Greenpeace network that have inspired me in recent weeks, in the hope that their creativity, passion, and determination will inspire you too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Campaign Updates<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Greenpeace Aotearoa (New Zealand) sued the world\u2019s largest dairy exporter for greenwashing\u2014and won!<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-canada-stateless\/2026\/04\/ac0077f4-gp0su3ewv-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"In 2024, Greenpeace activists protested during an investors meeting at the company\u2019s headquarters in Auckland. The activists put together a puzzle that exposed the cost of Fonterra\u2019s use of palm kernel for the rainforest in Southeast Asia.<div class=\"credit icon-left\"> \u00a9 Oren Oaariki \/ Greenpeace<\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Greenpeace Aotearoa is celebrating an important win against intensive dairy greenwash.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In 2024, the organization took <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/aotearoa\/press-release\/greenpeace-sues-fonterra-for-misleading-consumers-with-palm-kernel-greenwash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legal action<\/a> against Fonterra, the New Zealand dairy giant, for misleading customers with false claims on its butter packaging. <\/strong>Fonterra claimed that its Anchor-brand butter was \u201c100% New Zealand Grass-Fed.\u201d In reality, cows were being fed palm kernel\u2014an imported feed linked to rainforest destruction in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n<p>In April, the case settled out of court, <strong>with Fonterra publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/aotearoa\/press-release\/fonterra-admits-false-100-percent-new-zealand-grass-fed-anchor-butter-claims-broke-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitting<\/a> that it broke the law.<\/strong> It\u2019s a meaningful moment because greenwashing not only misleads people, but delays real climate action by making us think that progress is happening when it&#8217;s not. As Angelo Louw, a Greenpeace staff member based in Johannesburg, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/81923\/south-africa-water-crisis-after-historic-floods\/#:~:text=The%20City%20of%20Johannesburg%2C%20South,vulnerable%20communities%20paying%20the%20price.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">writes<\/a>: \u201cSouth Africa\u2019s water crises show what happens when climate stress meets aging systems.\u201d In other words, the water shortage is driven by climate change, and compounded by infrastructure failures (like burst pipes) and poor management.<\/p>\n\n<p>In response, Greenpeace Africa has been documenting frontline stories and supporting community protests to force action and accountability. In one striking action, volunteers delivered a glass of dirty water to a Minister\u2019s office, asking a simple question: \u201cwould you drink this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Now, that pressure is opening doors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The Department of Water and Sanitation has invited Greenpeace Africa<\/strong> to participate in the country\u2019s national climate response and nominate a \u201cClimate Change Champion\u201d to collaborate directly with the government. Cynthia Moyo, a Greenpeace Climate and Energy Campaigner, will take on this important role.<\/p>\n\n<p>This marks a major step forward for Greenpeace Africa\u2019s ability to influence water and climate policy. Greenpeace\u2019s creative confrontation drew attention to the Argentine government\u2019s reform to the Glaciers Law, and the serious consequences it could have on Argentina\u2019s water security. Essentially, the reforms would loosen environmental protections to allow for extractivist activities (primarily mining) in areas that were protected prior to the reform, including glacial and periglacial landscapes.
