{"id":8367,"date":"2019-04-08T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T12:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/?p=8367"},"modified":"2019-11-06T03:27:53","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T08:27:53","slug":"greenpeace-will-challenge-ford-gas-pump-stickers-as-misleading-advertising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/canada\/en\/story\/8367\/greenpeace-will-challenge-ford-gas-pump-stickers-as-misleading-advertising\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenpeace will challenge Ford gas pump stickers as misleading advertising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to the Ford government\u2019s announcement that it will<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/mndmf\/en\/2019\/04\/ontario-introduces-transparency-measures-to-reveal-true-cost-of-carbon-tax-on-home-heating-and-gas.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">introduce legislation requiring gas companies to put carbon price stickers on pumps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Greenpeace Canada said it would challenge these stickers under the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/adstandards.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Canadian-Code-of-Advertising-Standards.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian Code of Advertising Standards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. By omitting both the costs of climate change and information on the federal rebates, we believe that these stickers would violate the provision of the Code that states \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advertisements must not omit relevant information if the omission results in an advertisement that is deceptive or misleading<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Greenpeace Canada\u2019s senior energy strategist Keith Stewart said:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTransparency cuts both ways. Doug Ford can&#8217;t pretend climate change doesn&#8217;t exist or that it isn\u2019t already imposing heavy costs on our health and communities. These stickers are a cheap attempt to mislead Ontarians with half-truths that cannot be allowed to go unchallenged.
