{"id":1438,"date":"2016-10-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/master.k8s.p4.greenpeace.org\/eastasia\/aboutus\/1438\/xian-environmental-protection-bureau-caught-tampering-with-air-quality-readings-greenpeace-response\/"},"modified":"2019-11-20T00:28:10","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T08:28:10","slug":"xian-environmental-protection-bureau-caught-tampering-with-air-quality-readings-greenpeace-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/eastasia\/press\/1438\/xian-environmental-protection-bureau-caught-tampering-with-air-quality-readings-greenpeace-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Xi\u2019an Environmental Protection Bureau caught tampering with air quality readings &#8211; Greenpeace response"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Beijing, 25 October 2016 \u2013 It is shocking and concerning that the Xi\u2019an Environmental Protection Bureau has consistently falsified air quality readings.[1]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cCitizens have a right to know about the quality of the air they breath, in order to protect their and their family\u2019s health,\u201d said Greenpeace East Asia climate and energy campaigner Dong Liansai. \u201cReliable data is the very starting point of China\u2019s \u2018war on pollution\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>China\u2019s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has previously promised to crack down on false air quality readings [2], and a system to establish the validity of air quality readings is in place.[3] In June 2015, the MEP reported seven cases of falsification of air quality data.[4]<\/p>\n\n<p>The Xi\u2019an scandal should not detract from the overall long-term trend of air quality improvements across China, however.
