The company said that it now plans to utilize 100% renewable energy at its own sites by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality across its supply chain (scope 3) by 2040.<br><br>Ayako Sekine, Greenpeace Japan climate and energy campaigner, said:<br><br><em>\u201cGreenpeace welcomes Sony\u2019s new targets and timeline. This increased ambition is urgently needed. Sony has set a higher bar for technology companies across East Asia, but its target remains weaker than pledges by global competitors such as Apple and Microsoft.\u00a0 <\/em><em><br><\/em><em><br><\/em><em>Moreover, setting targets alone is not enough. We need to see more concrete action from Sony. In 2021, Sony\u2019s operations were powered only 7 percent by renewable energy, a ratio that is quite low compared to many of its global peers, including Samsung. Sony must urgently take steps to procure more renewable energy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>It\u2019s also important to note that Sony\u2019s 2030 renewable energy commitment doesn\u2019t include the company\u2019s supply chain, which makes up the majority of Sony\u2019s emissions.
