Pesticides and our health - Greenpeace report

Publication - May 12, 2015
The study outlines the known, and suspected, human health impacts of chemical pesticides based on the findings of current peer-reviewed studies.

There is evidence of links between pesticide exposure and different types of cancer, as well as neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

There is also evidence that suggests some pesticides can disrupt normal endocrine function and immune systems in the body. In some cases, negative impacts can be passed on to following generations and so the health impacts of pesticides can continue after the substance has been outlawed.

There is no alternative: the only option to reduce health risks from pesticides is to fundamentally rethink and shift our farming systems from industrial agriculture, which relies heavily on chemicals, toward ecological farming.
