Brussels<\/strong> – Commenting on the European Commission\u2019s new plan to push for a five- or seven-year licence for the weedkiller glyphosate, Greenpeace EU food policy director Franziska Achterberg<\/strong> said: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat matters is how much glyphosate is used and how it\u2019s used, not how long the licence is for. The European Parliament and Europeans want a ban, not a fudge that changes nothing about how much people are exposed and how much the environment is contaminated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Over one million people signed a <\/span>European citizen\u2019s initiative<\/span><\/a> calling for a glyphosate ban, while recent <\/span>polling<\/span><\/a> shows overwhelming support for a ban across Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n
