In particular, the EU has been unable to address the detrimental role that the overproduction of meat and dairy plays. Instead of locking Europe further into factory farming, and on track for climate disaster, the EU\u2019s farming policy must enable a transition to producing and consuming less and better meat and dairy.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alone, animal farming in Europe contributes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23504717\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12-17%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the EU\u2019s total greenhouse gas emissions. Farm animals emit greenhouse gases themselves and are often fed commodities like soy, which are linked to deforestation and habitat destruction, and have a major climate footprint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greenpeace is calling for <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/livestock_vision\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a 50% reduction<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in global meat and dairy production by 2050, to protect the climate, environment and public health.
