But MEPs voted to reject proposed bans on terms like \u2018veggie burger\u2019 or \u2018veggie sausage\u2019 for plant-based alternatives to meat. They\u2019re now muddying the debate on farming reform with a pointless vote on food names<\/em><strong><em> \u2013 i<\/em><\/strong><em>t\u2019s pathetic that the Parliament wouldn\u2019t even stand up to the industrial agriculture lobbyists on this. The votes won&#8217;t change the fact that more and more people are eating more vegetables and switching to meat and dairy alternatives, for the sake of their health and the environment, and will continue to call dairy-free products \u2018yoghurt\u2019 and \u2018cheese\u2019 anyway.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>The votes on food names come after the European Parliament voted against any meaningful reform of the EU\u2019s common agricultural policy, in a move that Greenpeace described as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/eu-unit\/issues\/nature-food\/45172\/eu-parliament-signs-death-sentence-for-small-farms-and-nature-greenpeace\/\"><em>\u201ca death sentence for small farms and nature\u201d<\/em><\/a>.
