A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/diabetes-cancer-hepatitis\/news\/commission-envisages-tobacco-free-europe-by-2040-in-leaked-cancer-plan\/\">leaked version<\/a> of the Commission\u2019s plan had shown clearer intentions to end EU funding for these ad campaigns, but this section has been watered down in the version published by the Commission today.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large  caption-style-medium caption-alignment-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res-510x340.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2021\/02\/46badcb9-gp0strlja_medium_res.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Greenpeace is calling on the Commission to end EU funding of ad campaigns for increased consumption of animal products with a harmful impact on public health, the climate and nature.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Greenpeace EU agriculture campaigner Sini Er\u00e4j\u00e4\u00e4 <\/strong>said: <em>&#8220;What\u2019s the point of EU plans to beat cancer or tackle climate change if it continues to promote food like meat that makes these problems worse? Don\u2019t tell us you care about climate and health \u2013 show us your budget and we\u2019ll tell you if you care about climate and health.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>The Commission\u2019s meat promotion budget recently came under fire for funding an ad campaign encouraging people to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/become-a-beefatarian-meps-slam-brussels-campaign-promote-meat\/\">\u2018become a beefatarian\u2019<\/a> and previously for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2020\/feb\/14\/eu-spending-tens-of-millions-of-euros-a-year-to-promote-meat-eating\">campaigns<\/a> to boost the consumption of veal, pork and beef.<\/p>\n\n<p>As promised in its \u2018Farm to Fork\u2019 strategy, the Commission is about to review its policy on promotion of EU farm and food products, with a new proposal expected by the end of 2021.
