Activists stood in front of Taxonosaurus with banners reading \u201cLET GAS AND NUCLEAR GO EXTINCT\u201d and \u201cSTOP FAKE GREEN.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><em><strong>High-quality photo and video will be available for media <a href=\"https:\/\/media.greenpeace.org\/collection\/27MDHUH6O2F0\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>EU spokesdinosaur Taxonosaurus Rex <\/strong>said: <em>\u201cEven a dinosaur like me can see that extending the life of fossil gas and nuclear energy by giving them a green label is like crashing a meteorite into the European Green Deal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Greenpeace EU campaigner Ariadna Rodrigo <\/strong>said: <em>\u201cThe EU\u2019s taxonomy could have been useful to stamp out greenwashing, but instead it\u2019s turning into a monster. Nuclear and gas are not green. Gas is now responsible for more of Europe\u2019s carbon emissions than coal, while after seventy years the nuclear industry still has no solution for the ever-growing mountain of radioactive waste. The European Commission should fully exclude these technologies from the EU\u2019s sustainable investment guidelines.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>The European Commission\u2019s plans to include fossil gas, nuclear energy and intensive livestock farming in the taxonomy have each faced severe criticism, including from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/energy-environment\/news\/austria-ready-to-sue-eu-over-nuclears-inclusion-in-green-finance-taxonomy\/\">national governments<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairr.org\/article\/investor-letter-eu-taxonomy\/\">asset managers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unpri.org\/download?ac=15189\">UN bodies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.endseurope.com\/article\/1734601\/green-groups-final-push-stop-taxonomy-greenwashing\">environmental groups<\/a>, and even the Commission\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/30\/Op-Ed-on-EU-Taxonomy-100g-threshold-vf.pdf\">Technical Expert Group<\/a>, which drafted the original technical recommendations on taxonomy.
