But these moves won\u2019t change the fact that Putin\u2019s fingerprints are all over the EU\u2019s plans to add fossil gas and nuclear energy to the EU\u2019s taxonomy of green investments. Russia could earn billions from this greenwashing, and Putin\u2019s lobbyists won\u2019t care that they\u2019ve lost their badges if they can tell their boss that they still got the job done.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace France published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/eu-unit\/issues\/climate-energy\/46227\/russian-doll-gas-nuclear-lobbying-taxonomy-eu\/\">a detailed investigation<\/a> in May exposing how Russian companies used subsidiaries and lobbyists to influence the decision to add gas and nuclear energy to the EU taxonomy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The report also revealed that Russia stands to be one of the main winners from the greenwashing of gas and nuclear energy, earning up to \u20ac4 billion extra from a taxonomy-driven expansion in gas capacity and a significant slice of an estimated \u20ac500 billion in taxonomy-related nuclear investments.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>MEPs from the joint ECON and ENVI committees will vote on a draft resolution to reject the Commission\u2019s plan to greenwash gas and nuclear energy on 14 June.
