[1] Greenpeace\u2019s EU agricultural policy director took part in the advisory group, which unanimously agreed that \u201cbusiness as usual, be it economic, social or environmental, is not an option\u201d.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Greenpeace EU agricultural policy director Marco Contiero<\/strong> said:<em> \u201cWhen we got farmers\u2019 unions, environmental experts, scientists, traders and food companies around the same table, everyone was clear \u2013 Europe\u2019s food and farming system must change \u2013 but the EU Commission\u2019s \u2018vision\u2019 can\u2019t seem to see that. EU farm policy pays massive amounts of public money to a model of farming that eats away at nature, rewards billionaire land-owners, puts small farms out of business and hollows out rural communities. If nothing changes, European farming\u2019s vulnerability to climate and environmental breakdown will grow, further risking farmers\u2019 livelihoods and their very ability to grow food. This is the Commission\u2019s tunnel vision on farming, unwilling to change course even as our food system crumbles.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-eu-unit-stateless\/2025\/02\/20250219-Marco-Contiero-1.wav\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n<p>Despite the European Commission\u2019s promise to base its agri-food plan on the advisory group\u2019s recommendations, today\u2019s announcement bears little resemblance to them, and fails to address the triple crisis of climate breakdown, nature destruction and environmental pollution, Greenpeace warned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace\u2019s main concerns with the European Commission\u2019s agri-food plan are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It ignores the unanimous recommendations of the advisory group to tackle unhealthy and resource-intensive diets, and rebalance the consumption of animal-based proteins (meat, dairy and eggs) with plant-based ones.
