Brussels<\/strong> \u2013 The European Parliament has voted to back an EU-US trade deal that would see the EU completely drop tariffs on US goods, in exchange for a capped 15% tariff on EU goods going to the US, and linked to the promise for Europe to import $750 billion<\/a> of US energy by the end of 2028, mostly oil and gas.<\/p>\n\n

Greenpeace EU climate and energy campaigner Eva Corral<\/strong> said: \u201cThis vote is capitulating to Trump\u2019s bully tactics, showing him and others that intimidation works. Europe\u2019s repeated energy crises stem from an overreliance on fossil fuels, so swapping one dodgy supplier for another just deepens the problem. Every month there is more evidence that boosting renewables and cutting energy waste is the best way to avoid price shocks, keep household bills down and stop pollution.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n

By 2025, the US already provided 27% of EU gas imports. The US is projected to supply two-third of the EU\u2019s liquefied gas in 2026, rising 80% by 2028 or 2029, according to<\/a> the Institute of Energy Economics and Financial Analysis. Greenpeace is warning that increased imports of energy products like oil, gas and nuclear from the US undermines Europe\u2019s safety and independence, as well as accelerating the climate crisis which the EU\u2019s own science advisers say will have devastating consequences<\/a> for the continent.<\/p>\n\n
