They harness the power of the sun and wind to produce clean energy, they grow and consume local food, and open their houses and wallets to those in need. At its best, the EU nurtures these efforts and secures the well-being and rights of its citizens.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Europe of austerity, deregulation, corporate greed, and closed borders has failed people and planet. It has widened the gap between rich and poor, and eroded our ability to face up to the global challenges of climate change, ecosystem collapse, and war.
