{"id":15217,"date":"2023-01-27T14:00:14","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T14:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www-stage.greenpeace.org\/india\/?page_id=15217"},"modified":"2025-06-23T14:38:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T14:38:16","slug":"cycle-ki-sawari-delhi-hamari","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/india\/en\/cycle-ki-sawari-delhi-hamari\/","title":{"rendered":"Cycle Ki Sawari, Delhi Hamari"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pedestrian-friendly cities<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Allocate dedicated car and motorbike-free zones within the city.<br><\/p>\n\n<p>Create walking and cycle-friendly infrastructure to encourage usage of the same for last mile connectivity and short distance trips.<br><\/p>\n\n<p>Rationalise road space utilisation by prioritising road space for non-motorised transport (walking\/cycling), emergency vehicles, buses and other public transport, and finally provide very limited space for private vehicles.<\/p>\n\n<p>Implement a comprehensive parking policy that frees public spaces, footpaths, cycle tracks etc. from illegal parking and makes those spaces available to non-motorised transport (NMT).&nbsp;Parking policy for private vehicles should be such that (i) the charges are pegged to land values and (ii) private vehicles are not allowed to block footpaths or roads in residential or commercial areas.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center mob pt-3 pb-2 wp-block-heading\">Demand Better Transportation For Clean Air<\/h3>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons pb-3 is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button mt-1 is-style-cta btnpet\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-dark-green-800-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"#petition\">Sign The Petition<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cycle friendly cities<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Allocate a dedicated Urban Transport Fund to improve the NMT infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n<p>As part of NMT-friendly infrastructure, introduce <strong>no-car and zero emission zones in city centres.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Create an interconnected network of segregated cycle tracks that cover all the arterial and major arterial roads. There should be a target to <strong>increase the percentage of cycle lanes by 25 percent per annum<\/strong> as per guidelines.<\/p>\n\n<p>Create NMT parking near all major bus stops, metro stations and terminals within a year. All markets and commercial places should have secure cycle stands. These stands should have adequate lighting to discourage theft. <em>At least 10 cycles can be fitted in the same amount of space as a car!<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>All streets should be adequately illuminated at night. Attention should be paid to the high mast streetlights that aren\u2019t obstructed by trees resulting in dark spots on the streets.<\/p>\n\n<p>Incentivise cycling through <strong>tax deductions<\/strong> for cycle-related purchases and services.
