Bengaluru metro is a lifeline for a large number of commuters who are dependent on it for their daily commute. It not only provides fast and efficient travel but most importantly, it is an affordable transit option for many. On 9th February, Bengaluru metro announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/cities\/bangalore\/metro-fare-hike-not-limited-to-50-complain-many-commuters\/article69199999.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">50% increase<\/a> in metro fares with a 45% stage wise hike after recommendations from the fare fixation committee. The base fare (upto 2km) remained 10 Rs while the maximum fare was increased from 60 Rs to 90 Rs. As the fare hike was implemented, for some journeys, the <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/everyday-explainers\/bengaluru-commuters-protest-hike-namma-metro-fares-9848574\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fare surged<\/a> upto 100% especially for long distance routes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>In order to understand the impact of the Bengaluru metro fare hike, Greenpeace India conducted surveys at multiple locations like marketplaces, metro stations and received responses from colleges as well in Bangalore.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-india-stateless\/2025\/03\/55b4c8ad-bengaluru-metro-fare-hike-survey-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read Survey Here<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<style>p{text-align:justify;}<\/style>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public transport is a public good, designed to provide transit facilities to the people at an affordable cost.
